Dear nature enthusiasts and bird watchers,

The Hawk and Owl Trust needs your keen eyes this winter! We're conducting our annual winter survey of Long-eared Owls, and we need your help to make it a success.

Why It Matters

  • Long-eared Owls are fascinating but elusive creatures
  • Your sightings contribute valuable data to conservation efforts
  • Understanding their winter distribution helps protect their habitats

How to Participate

  1. Keep an eye out for Long-eared Owls in your area
  2. If you spot one, note the location, date, and time
  3. Take a photo if possible (but don't disturb the owl)
  4. Submit your sighting to the Hawk and Owl Trust's website

Identifying Long-eared Owls

  • Look for:
    • Tall, slender owls with prominent ear tufts
    • Orange-yellow eyes
    • Streaked brown plumage for camouflage
  • Often found in dense coniferous or mixed woodlands
