Save the Silent Hunters: Long-Eared Owl Initiative

The haunting call of the Long-Eared Owl is fading from our landscapes. These majestic creatures, known for their distinctive ear tufts and silent flight, are facing a critical decline. The Hawk and Owl Trust, in collaboration with dedicated partners, is launching an initiative to turn the tide.

The Challenge

  • Critically Low Population: Our surveys reveal an alarming decrease in Long-Eared Owl numbers.
  • Habitat Loss: Degradation of suitable environments is pushing these owls to the brink.
  • Food Scarcity: Declining vole populations are threatening owl survival.
  • Knowledge Gap: We lack crucial data on owl movements and population dynamics.

Our Mission: Reintroduce & Revive

For the first time ever, we’re embarking on a mission to reintroduce breeding pairs of Long-Eared Owls. Our goal? To boost populations and create thriving habitats across the land.

The Plan

  1. Conservation Breeding: A 5-year program to nurture and release owls
  2. Habitat Enhancement: Partnering with landowners to create owl-friendly environments.
  3. Cutting-Edge Research: Tracking owl movements to understand migration patterns and population sources.
